Position Statement

The Ontario Museum Professionals network aims to be a community of practice by and for established museum professionals in the province. The OMP network strives to be a hub for professionals to share knowledge, connect and support each other at an individual level. We aim to be an umbrella organization that shares information about local networks and acts as a conduit and catalyst for connecting with like-minded professionals from across the province. The OMP will work alongside established groups, networks and associations to help ensure that the sector is vibrant and supportive for individual practitioners.

Acknowledgment

We'd like to take this space to acknowledge the long history of First Nations and Metis in the province of Ontario. Cultural spaces and museums occupy physical spaces within the traditional and treaty terriorities of a multitude of Indigenous peoples across Ontario.

We remember that many peoples have lived on and shared these lands some who are known and some that have been lost to history. We acknowledge the trauma of the Colonial experience that followed the arrival of settlers to these lands and the burden which that trauma imposes on us as heritage professionals to work towards truth and reconciliation within our sector. Museum professionals have a responsibility to connect, collaborate and share with Indigenous peoples.
